Santa Fe, New Mexico (Reuters) – A New Mexico lady was brought into jail this week after stating on Craigslist that she was “new in town” and “looking for Mary Jane,” according to officials on Wednesday.
Authorities say that Anamika Dave, 29, of Roswell, was released from the Chavez County prison on a $5,000 bail after being charged with one count of illegal solicitation of marijuana.
Travis Holley, a spokesman for Roswell police, said that Dave was arrested on Monday night in the parking lot of a neighboring company by undercover officers after a narcotics enforcement officer, who was using the Internet on his own time, saw her advertisement.
Holley claims that once the officer confirmed via email that she wanted to buy marijuana, they scheduled a meeting place to complete the transaction.
According to Holley, the officer made sure it wasn’t and then began speaking with Dave, setting up the deal. Although it was lawful to look up marijuana online, he stated that making an undercover purchase was necessary before an arrest could be made.
Holley states that the candidate “must show intent to carry out that plan.” The officer claimed, “She responded to the advertisement and took the bait.”
